Important things to know about rats if you have an infestation

Rats are disease-carriers and can cause serious damage to your home. They chew through anything and everything – from electrics to steel. Rats also breed rapidly, so if you suspect a rat problem, you must seek professional pest control help as soon as you can.

Signs of rats

• Droppings – which will be dark brown in colour and similar in size and shape to a grain of rice.
• Bite marks – the teeth of rats grow continuously; to maintain them, rats gnaw EVERYTHING, so you may spot teeth marks on things such as wood, concrete and cardboard.
• Movement during the night – you may hear ‘scurrying’ noises in your walls or floorboards.
• Footprints – which might be seen if you spread a thin layer of flour on your floors or worktop.
